How to winterize a boat

Categories:Maintenance Tips

How to winterize a boatWhy put time and money into a boat that you’re not going to use for six months? That’s an all-too-common attitude when it comes to winterizing chores. Big mistake. Winter weather can wreak havoc (cracked blocks, corrosion, etc.) on a boat that’s not prepared for hibernation. Another tip: If your boat needs professional help and you wait until spring to get it, you’re hitting the boat doctor at his busiest time. So it pays to take care of any problems and dealer-required maintenance in the fall, before your craft is clutched by winter’s icy grip.

The President’s Corner, Spring, 2011

Categories:Announcements

The past year at Pointe Marine presented several challenges relative to personnel. Alice LeMieux retired last spring after 23 years of service, while Tighe Wierengo resigned late last summer to pursue his own boat haul out, storage and service business. We were fortunate to hire Marty Hanson as our Operations Manager who with 32 years of experience in the marine industry is an ideal person for Pointe Marine. Most recently, Kelly Weinrick replaced Harold Bird as our Office Manager. Kelly’s accounting and office management experiences will be beneficial in further streamlining office administration. We are fortunate to retain Brian Sturm as our head mechanic and Mike Thomas, as our grounds and facilities person. Please enjoy the additional information and photos of our staff which are featured within this newsletter. As you launch your boats and prepare for the boating season, make a point to introduce yourselves and thank our employees for their excellent work.

With change, comes opportunity. In the first quarter of 2011 we are off to a good start with a 25% reduction in expenses. We are currently working to fill all of our slips and are booking lots of good service work with the expectation that revenue will improve in 2011. Please help in the efforts by booking your personal service work with Pointe Marine and also by spreading the word that slips are available and that we offer exceptional marine services including engine, mechanical, electrical, fiberglass and paint to mention a few.

Pointe Marine is a unique and beautiful marina. I would like to personally thank Bill Eyke, Dick Jeannot, board members and staff for their leadership and many fine improvements throughout the years. Our buildings, docks, drives, parking and landscaping are well maintained and in relatively good shape. Please keep your eyes open for additional improvements in 2011 as we continue to make Pointe Marine a pleasant experience for everyone.

On a sad note, several marina members passed away over the past year. Our sympathies are extended to the families of Alan Bergmans, Lee Witt, George Bartlett and Nancy Bunks. These members will certainly be missed.

Please feel free to talk with me, our board members and our staff with any suggestions and ideas for making our marina a better place. Have a great boating season, and we’ll see you on the docks!
